My exchange with AFS was really important so I could accept myself more in many ways. The experience of being involved with other cultures (not only from the country I was living in but also from other exchange students) and with an open-minded host family and community was unique. Despite having some support in Brazil, Belgium’s acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community surprised me – even more in the AFS environment, so I thank everyone who made this personal growth possible. It was also when I went to my first pride parade (picture).
